[What is Coated Tea?] Coated tea is tea that is grown by covering the tea leaves with shading nets to block strong sunlight for a few days before picking the new buds during the new tea season. It is a cultivation method that is not yet common even in Shizuoka, a famous tea producing area.
[Arabatake Garden's Deep-steamed Tea] Deep-steamed tea that brings out the quality of the tea leaves: Arabatake Garden's tea is made using a deep-steaming method that steams the tea leaves three to four times longer than regular sencha.
[Tea from Makinohara Plateau] The Makinohara Plateau has long hours of sunlight, allowing the thick, nutrient-rich tea leaves to grow. By steaming these tea leaves for a long time, the tannin (bitterness) content decreases, and the amino acid theanine (sweetness) increases, resulting in a mellow tea with a deep green color, smooth sweetness, and rich flavor.
[Commitment to the Soil] Arabatake Garden believes that delicious tea can only be made from thick, green tea leaves picked from vigorous tea trees, and they are committed to cultivating tea from soil preparation.
[Natural Reduction Farming Method - Rice Bran Compost] Every autumn, Arabatake Garden makes rice bran compost by fermenting rice bran, rapeseed cake, and other materials with effective soil microorganisms. This rice bran compost, rich in savory components, is evenly spread over a vast field to increase the population of microorganisms in the soil, enrich the soil, and strengthen its fertility.
[Shizuoka's Tea Field Farming Method - World Agricultural Heritage] Tea field farming involves cutting grass such as bamboo grass and pampas grass, which are used as organic material in the tea fields. It is a common landscape in Shizuoka prefecture. The practice of covering the tea fields with the cut grass from the tea fields produces higher-quality tea, and this activity promotes coexistence with organisms without disrupting the natural environment. Shizuoka's tea field farming method was certified as a World Agricultural Heritage by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on May 30, 2013.
