Withania Somnifera (Indian Ginseng) : Ashwagandha 100-500 seeds from INDIA Ashwagandha is easy to grow from seed. Use a good well draining potting soil and only lightly cover the seeds. Some sources state the seed needs light to germinate and we have certainly found that a heavier coating of soil seems to retard germination. Seeds need warm temperatures at least 70°F ( 20°C) then germination takes about 2 weeks longer at lower temperatures. Pot seedlings into individual pots as soon as they are large enough to handle and continue to grow on inside until outside temperature and more importantly soil temperatures are at least 65°F (18°C) before planting out. Ashwagandha needs as long a growing period as you can give it to reach maximum height and root development before harvest. Needs bright sunshine or good artificial light.
